For me the content of a photograph is of paramount importance. There is always an odd event in my pictures and a certain tension. Although I have shot a lot of black and white over time, I have always regarded myself as a colour photographer. From early on I learned that the proper use of colour evokes the correct emotional response, sets the mood and adds another dimension to the image.
My photography has always been art and I approach my work in such a way as to open it up into a more expressive and emotive medium needing a greater degree of of interpretation in the mind of the viewer. I always aim to produce pictures with “eye appeal”. My work is self-indulgent without being impenetrable. I make them so that they can be read on two levels. Either for their surface (colour, composition etc) or for their underlying meaning.
