| I once thought of a picture of a man standing on one leg reaching
for an object taken from a low view point. I needed a significant
object - what it was to be I did not know until I came across
this Fiorucci shoe. This brought to mind the work Guy Bourdin,
my favourite photographer, had done for Charles Jourdan Shoes.
Having taken that shot I went on to do a series with which I later
won the Vogue/Sotheby's Cecil Beaton Award.
I used myself as a model for this shot atop an abandoned building
next to Battersea Power Station, the famous landmark in London.
As I was starting, a woman in a block of flats across the way
came out on her balcony, saw me then went back in and brought
out a pair of binoculars. I felt rather selfconscious and stupid
standing on one leg by myself. |
