When being interviewed for the foreword of my last book, Bernadinism:
How to Dominate Men and Subjugate Women, I was asked what my next
project would be. I said I wanted to explore violence. After I
thought about it some more, I thought I would include sex as well.
The title comes from a slogan. I printed on a T-shirt years ago.
The book was 7 years in the making and during that time other
themes and interesting subject matter came up. I accumulated enough
material for two books. The pictures in this volume are the ones
that made the cut. The book is like me, beautiful in places and
ugly in others. This is the unexpurgated photographer's cut. It
may change and I may edit out pictures in other iterations, so
if you want to own the original article, you need to get a first
edition.
The picture on the cover was voted for by my friends and fans
on Facebook. the thought it had the most narrative suspense out
of the shortlist I showed them. Wimbledon Common, now notorious
for the Rachel Nickell murder, is no place to be caught with a
screaming woman and an axe, as I found out when shooting the cover
of my new book. The model screamed because a frog jumped on her
from the grass and the mounted police, who happened to be near
at hand, came galloping towards the scene of the incident. Luckily
I was able to get his axe back in his bag before they arrived.
Put in the position of a would-be sex attacker, I let the model
do the talking. The police icily explained that this was no place
for screaming. Wouldnt it be ironic if you really did turn out
to be a serial killer? said the model, who had only met me only
recently. Yes it would, was my laconic reply.
